These are the first official pictures of the BMW X6, one of 2008’s most intriguing cars. It’s a 4x4 with a coupé body, seriously high performance engines including a 407bhp twin-tubocharged V8 and a trick diff to give it a flavour of the M division’s finest. The X6 is based on the X5's chassis and shares its wheelbase, but its around 20mm lower and has a wider track, to enhance its dynamic ability.
It’s certainly the sportiest SUV so far.

Fiat Grande Punto Abarth: the lowdown
Fiat is finally resurrecting the sporty Abarth badge for a Grande Punto hot hatch, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this week – and aimed squarely at beefed-up supermini rivals such as the Fiesta ST and Skoda Fabia vRS. Discreet, it ain’t. The new model is coated with chunky Abarth badges and bright-red, go-faster stripes, all bearing the name or trademark scorpion logo of the historic brand.

We all laughed when Audi brought us a Cabriolet SUV in 2007 with the Cross Cabriolet Concept. Who on earth would ever contemplate chopping the top off an SUV for anything other than a Concept we all said? Turns out that Nissan would. We first heard rumours about a drop-top Murano early last year and decided they were mad.
